The Location
Let’s talk location, a truly untouched paradise and a hidden gem of Australia due to a lack of exposure and market dominance of the more iconic Uluru and Great Barrier Reef regions. Sitting right on the doorstep of Port Lincoln a short 20-minute flight from Adelaide, which is a 2-hour flight from Sydney. It’s home to Australia’s best scenic wildlife touring, while having the comforts of home and beautifully warm, kind and funny characters to meet. Our main man ‘Lunch’ will keep you laughing for days with his stories and knowledge. We know all our guests will fall in love with the area.
You’ll be based in a beautiful waterfront Beach House, where we curate tailor-made, experiential itineraries for families based on their interests, fitness and makeup. Our recommended length of stay is at least three (3) to five (5) days to achieve the best value for your travel time. The EP is an organic addition to a journey which could include Melbourne, Tasmania, Perth and/or the Adelaide wine regions due to its air accessibility from Adelaide.
From our guide Lunch: My favourite time for travellers coming here is either winter (June to August) or Spring (September-November) as I find that the wildlife is even more abundant, the landscapes are pristine, the seafood is at its very best, we can light a fire wherever and there is even less people around! Most of our guests arrive with low expectations because they’ve not heard much about the region, by the time that they leave they are blown away by the variety & depth of experience here….that’s why we love it, everyday there is something new.”
Experiences
The EP is a year-round-destination and is Australia’s ultimate temperate aquatic playground. What will strike you first is just how remote and unpopulated this region is. With striking coastlines, vast sand dunes, secluded coves, an incredible seafood scene and picturesque coastal heathlands. There are very few places in the world where you can interact with wild marine life, emus and koalas in their own natural habitat and remain literally within touching distance. You will come face to face with wild koalas as the area has unique Gum Trees which grow sideways and their low branches provide the most intimate of wild encounters, this is very rare and exclusive to this region. Other (fully guided) ideas we suggest include; Swimming with the sea lions, a hunt & gather experience, surfing or beach fishing, 4WDrive through sand-dunes and rugged terrain, E-Mountain Bike through National Parks or just sit back and relax with a local drop and the freshest seafood. The EP is a foodie’s delight and as an example we offer behind-the-scenes oyster tours and in-water tastings as they arrive fresh from harvest. Oysters are paired with a local gin or wines for adults and you’ll be able to meet the farmers and hear their stories first-hand.
Adventurous
For the more adventurous families, we also recommend a three (3) day great white shark cage diving expedition across the Neptune Islands in addition to touring The EP. This is the world’s only ocean floor cage diving experience. The boat features two diving experiences, a bottom cage and a surface cage. The bottom cage is for certified divers only and will provide the ultimate viewing angles of all marine life. The surface cage is fun for all ages and abilities and is arguably one of the most awesome wildlife experiences there is in Australia. This liveaboard experience attracts some of the world’s best aquatic photographers, scientists, and divers as you do see whales, dolphins, rays, birds and other shark varieties. This is very safe and friendly for all ages and we can charter the expedition privately for a truly personalized trip.
Indigenous Culture
A true highlight is meeting and spending time with a First Nations Healer named Wyarta. Wyarta takes you on a cultural journey and experience. With Wyarta’s expertise and assistance you will get hands-on and craft your own smudge stick. Smudge sticks have been a part of the indigenous culture for millennia and are used in ceremonies as a cleansing smoke ritual and purification. It is a way to bring about physical, spiritual and emotional balance, aiding in the cleansing of negative energy. We also suggest a cultural painting workshop with the acclaimed indigenous artist Susie Betts. Her Aboriginal heritage blends the old ways with the new with an intention to teach participants about Aboriginal art, culture, design and the healing colours painted from the heart.
This is the Eyre Peninsula, and this is why Exclusive Travel Group loves the southern states of Australia.
