The Lights of Christmas - Sydney 2018

The lights of Christmas will bring the gorgeous St Mary’s Cathedral to life. Running from 5–25 December light and sound will be projected onto the cathedral’s 75-metre-tall facade.

This year The Lights of Christmas have partnered with the St Vincent Curran Foundation to raise funds for St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney. The hospital is one of Sydney’s oldest and most respected medical institutions. Working together money will be raised for the hospital’s heart and lung transplantation programs, with opportunities for the public to support a fundraising initiative throughout the event.

From 7:30pm choir performances will fill the air with Christmas delight. Once 8:30pm arrives the choirs falls quiet and the dazzling light show begins. This year the show is split into three segments.

The first will be a delightful projection of decorative patterns and colours, inspired by a kaleidoscope and paying homage to Christmas. The second segment will feature a story written and narrated by the current “Red Wiggle,” Simon Pryce. It tells the story of Roger Robot who feels overshadowed by the other new toys gifted at Christmas. What follows is a journey of making friends, sharing love, helping others, embracing the gift of giving and finally a joyous Christmas Day for all.

Finally, there will be a traditional series of Madonna and Child artworks that honour the essence of Christmas and the beauty of a mother and child relationship.
